Topics that finally make sense

Most students do not need more notes. They need someone to explain the hard parts in a way that clicks, then check they can explain it back.

Students often get stuck on the same areas: inheritance and genetic crosses, the detail of photosynthesis and respiration, nervous and hormonal control, and gene expression. We start wherever you are losing marks.

What we cover

  • The topics you find hardest
  • Exam technique and command words
  • Maths skills and required practicals
  • A Level Chemistry too

Exam technique that earns marks

Command words

Answer the question asked

  • Describe: say what happens or what the data shows
  • Explain: give the reasons why
  • Suggest: apply what you know to something unfamiliar
  • Evaluate: weigh up both sides, then judge
Mark schemes

Use the words examiners look for

  • Precise terms score: “complementary shape”, not “fits”
  • One clear point per mark available
  • Read examiner reports for the mistakes others make
  • Always quote data with units when you use it
Maths

At least 10% of marks need maths

  • Percentage change and rates from graphs
  • Magnification and unit conversions
  • Statistical tests such as chi-squared
  • Standard form and significant figures
Practicals

Required practicals appear in exams

  • Know the method, variables and controls
  • Explain how to improve reliability and validity
  • Know the safety risks
  • Practise drawing and reading results tables

A revision plan that works

  1. Every week

    Active recall

    • Close the book and write what you remember
    • Flashcards with spaced repetition
    • Teach one topic to someone else
  2. Each topic

    Topic questions

    • Past paper questions by topic
    • Mark with the mark scheme, not your gut
    • Log every lost mark and why
  3. From Easter

    Full papers

    • Timed full papers
    • Practise long answers and essays
    • Revisit your error log
  4. Exam week

    Keep it light

    • Short recall sessions only
    • Review key definitions
    • Sleep and eat properly
“Amazing tutoring, I had lessons for A-level biology and the tutor helped me understand the topics I was struggling to get my head around in such a simple but well rounded way. The explanation of the eye’s function in particular was so well taught.”
